During the visit, the model of Brahmaputra for the reach
from Aphalamukh to D/S Mullual for a length of
34 km was run with a discharge range from 15,000
m3/s to 40,000 m3/s in the
model tray No. 1 for evaluation of river
training measures in terms of Guide bank in
suitable location.
Sri
M.N.Singh, Joint Director, CWPRS, Pune expressed
his satisfaction over the similarity of model in
terms of Channel Geometry, water surface slope.
Two locations were tentatively fixed for testing
Guide Bund & was tested in the presence of
Member (RM). Due to spill of water on and around
heading up arrangement during high flood, it was
suggested to increase the model by another 15 m
towards down stream so that back water effect
immediately upstream leading up section could be
minimized. The Chief Engineer (I&W) issued
go ahead order to modify the model as per
suggestion of expert team.
It
was suggested to carry out preliminary study
like selection of location of guide bund, induce
effect on river regime, back water effect on
existing embankment, fencing out of down stream,
formation of char and shoal, discharge intensity
along the guide bund to fix optimum width
etc.
The
representative from Majuli Island
express their satisfaction on the model testing
works.
