MULTIPURPOSE PROJECTS UNDER
BRAHMAPUTRA BOARD - STATUS THEREOF (AS ON 31-05-2011)
  

   
   

 

Brahmaputra Board is now investigating and preparing DPR of the following projects:-


  

 1.  NOA-DEHING MULTIPURPOSE PROJECT 

The Noa-dehing river is a tributary of Lohit river. The river originates from the Indo-Myanmar border and has a catchment of 2404 sq. km upto the proposed dam site at Miao. To exploit the hydropower and irrigation potential (within Arunachal Pradesh), the project was revived in 1995-96 with a 45m high dam at 4 km upstream of Miao township.

The installed capacity of the project is 75 MW. The gross command area of the project is 8000 ha. The DPR of the project is likely to be completed by December'2011.


  

2.  LOHIT MULTIPURPOSE PROJECT 

            Lohit river is a major tributary of the Brahmaputra with about 10% contribution of the run-off at Pandu. The Board started investigation for a multipurpose dam project with dam site at a new location called Mompani from 1996 onwards. The height of the proposed dam is reduced to 142 m. 

 

3. SIMSANG DAM PROJECT 

The river Simsang  originates from Southern part of Garo Hills near Tura at an elevation of 500 m. The proposed location of the project is near Rangkhandi village about 6 km away from Nangal bibira. Survey and investigation for Simsang dam project was started by Brahmaputra Board during 1997. The height of the proposed dam is 78m and power potential of the projects is 65 MW. The DPR of the project is likely to be completed by 2012-13.

  

4.  KYNSHI STAGE-I DAM PROJECT 

            Transfered to Govt. of Meghalaya for construction by private developer.
  

5.  KYNSHI SATGE-II PROJECT 

             Transfered to Govt. of Meghalaya for construction by private developer.

6.  KULSI MULTIPURPOSE PROJECT                                                                              

            The river Kulsi, known as Khri in the upper catchments in Meghalaya, is a south bank tributary of the river Brahmaputra. The Kulsi Multipurpose Project envisages construction of an earthen dam across the river Kulsi at about 1.5 km down stream of Ukium village in Assam. The project is proposed to have a 42 m high dam with installed capacity of 58 MW. The gross command area of the project is 26000 ha. The target for preparation of DPR is December'2011.

 

7.  KILLING DAM PROJECT 

The Killing basin drains the eastern part of Khasi and Western Part of Karbi Anlong District of the South of Brahmaputra. The river Killing originates from south West Khasi hill ranges, wherein the elevations range 1100m-1200 m and flows down north. Survey and investigation for Killing dam project was started by Brahmaputra Board during 2001-02.

The project envisages construction of a 100 m high concrete gravity dam with installed capacity of 85 MW. The target for preparation of DPR has been kept as 2013-14.

 

8.  JIADHAL MULTIPURPOSE PROJECT 

            The river Jiadhal is one of the important North bank tributaries of the Brahmaputra. The Jiadhal sub-basin falls in the West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh and Dhemaji district of Assam. The project is proposed to have 100 m high concrete gravity dam with installed capacity of 70 MW. 

              The target for preparation of DPR for the project has been kept as 2013-14.
